On March 21 Giacomello, Taffarel & Cia Ltda is established. The company started its activities as a wooden barrel manufacturer for the wine industry of the region. Approximately 30 collaborators were part of the company.

1952

1952. It changes its corporation name to Taffarel & Cia Ltda.

1962

It begins to be called Tanoaria Bento Gonçalves Ltda.

It changes its corporation name to Tanoaria Bento Gonçalves SA, barrels are first exported to Uruguay and countries in Central America.

The wine industry starts to change the wine packaging replacing the wooden barrels.

The corporation name becomes Madem SA Indústria e Comércio de Madeiras e Embalagens. They begin to produce boxes and plywood packing and wooden reels, in order to replace the wooden barrels.

The construction of the branch in Rio Negro, Paraná, is started, with a 3,800m² plant and a 10,000m² area for future expansion, manufacturing wooden reels in industrial scale. The first pinus seedlings are planted in Rio Negro and Mostardas, in Rio Grande do Sul.

Madem builds two sawmills, one in Rio Negro and another in Bituruna, Paraná.

A new furniture factory is built, moving its head office to Bento Gonçalves, Rio Grande do Sul.

It starts manufacturing furniture, with 100% of the production aimed at exports.

The worldwide expansion project is started with the opening of Euromadem, a reel distributing company in Spain.

The first industrial unit is open abroad, located in Calaf, Barcelona, Spain.

Madem decides to close down its furniture unit due to the exchange rate crisis and the Chinese competition, focusing completely on plywood and wood cable reels and stretch films.

• Implementation of new industrial units begins: Chattanooga/TN – USA, Bahrain, Manama – Middle East.

• The company's planning indicates the opening of another five factories on all continents by 2012.

• Madem Reels USA opens its first distribution in Culloden/WV and outsources distribution centers in New Jersey, North Caroline and Texas.

• Madem Romania SRL is officially opened and production is expected to start in April 2009.

• Madem in Mostardas starts plywood production with an investment of US$ 8 million.
